The non-profit organisation The Friends of the Tobacco Museum (VTM) was founded in 1981 by a few representatives of various Wervik cultural associations. The main objective was to collect all kinds of objects, documents and publications on tobacco in Wervik and its surroundings, to later house them in a museum.
